About Deedsum
An independent, figures-first guide to what moving home costs. No forms, nothing to sell.
Deedsum is an independent information site about what it costs to move home in the UK. It is not a law firm, not a conveyancer, and not paid to send you anywhere. It exists to put the whole bill in one place, with the receipts attached.
How the figures are made
- Every figure is read from the body that sets it, or from a firm's own published page, quoted word for word and stamped with the day we read it.
- Statutory figures come from the fee order or the revenue body. Firms' prices come from the pages the transparency rules make them publish. Nothing is a guess.
- Where we have done the arithmetic, the page says so beside the number rather than dressing it up as published.
- A figure we cannot verify is left out. A gap beats a guess.
- Every figure is open data at /api/metrics.json, with its source and the dates it was read and is due a re-read.
How we check these figures
Every figure carries two dates: the day we read its source, and the day it is next due a read. Both are printed beside the figure and both are in the open feed, so you can see how fresh a number is without taking our word for it. When the due date passes, the build says so, and a watcher reads the site every morning: it opens every source link and flags a dead one, notices when a watched source page changes, lists the figures due a re-read and confirms the live site is the latest build. It never edits a page. The full account is on how we check our figures.
A statutory figure is only ever taken from the body that sets it: the fee order for the Land Registry, the revenue body for the tax. A firm's price is only ever taken from that firm's own published page, quoted word for word, never from a comparison site. Where a comparison site and the official document disagree, the document wins and we note where the other one went. If a figure cannot be checked, it does not go on the page at all.
Who is behind it
Deedsum is a small, independent project, not a company touting for your business. It makes its money, if it makes any, from ordinary advertising on the page, never from selling your details or taking a fee to pass you to a firm. That is the whole point of it.

Privacy: we ask for nothing
There is no form anywhere on this site. No name, no email, no postcode, no account, no newsletter. We do not ask for your details, so we have nothing to store, share or sell. It is the plainest privacy position there is: we cannot lose what we never collect.
